As a result, you are able to afford far more features at a much lower price and with a much lower cost of ownership than with a “build it from the ground up” solution.

To illustrate, I had a client approach me to design a site to help him manage his marketing efforts to his clients and track all interactions between his reps and his clients. In dealing with other web developers, he had come to believe that the system he envisioned would cost over $10,000 to develop. Consequently, he had scaled down his requirements to the bare bones.

In the business world, this is a classic example of the build-vs-buy scenario.  To build that CRM system that my client envisioned, from scratch, would have easily cost over $10,000.  But why take the time and money to build it when you can buy it and tweak it a bit to fit your needs?
