US Government Mainframe Conversion

Acted as Lead Consultant for an ongoing DOE Conversion effort. Designed and wrote flexible conversion software for converting mainframe data to PC Databases. Reviewed and finalized data element migration between existing mainframe data and new Oracle database. Interfaced with various contractors. Conducted search for additional staff.

LAN Administration

Provided various LAN Management and Administrative functions to over 160 users at a WAN site of over 400 users. Create customized reports, diagnose hardware/software failures, setup new users, perform LAN diagnostics to increase throughput/efficiency. Instituted site-wide standards for software license tracking and remote support capabilities.

Paradox WAN Menu System

Developed a Parameterized Menu System for running Paradox applications within a LAN environment. System allows for multiple project/application directories across servers and provides for individualized menus based upon user security level. Integrates tightly with Project Reporting System (see below). Replaced redundant applications freeing considerable disk space while providing multi-user access. Former user application allowed only one user at a time to access data.

Project Reporting System

Created a Reporting Sub-System that provides simultaneous access to over 200 reports across many different application directories. System provides for report access based upon user security level and presents appropriate Paradox passwords as needed. Integrates with Menu System above.

Automated Reporting System

Designed and implemented this automated system for producing Paradox reports. Users can request that any of the reports in the Project Reporting System (above) be printed on a regularly scheduled basis at off-peak times and then spooled to the nearest LAN printer. System also considers printer-type and will automatically duplex long reports, where possible, saving thousands of pages per month.

Correspondence Tracking System

Built a system for tracking critical correspondence in a government-sponsored nuclear cleanup. System automatically generates a unique document identifier and gathers various categorical information about the document and integrates with Word Perfect 5.1 to compose standardized document headers. Document information is stored in several Paradox tables and also uploaded to mainframe computer. Provides searching/reporting functions.

Cybernetic Light Theater

This unique project was developed for Buffalo Place. It is one of my more publicized accomplishments. Located in Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo, NY this combination of hardware and software allowed people to interact and control a variety of lighting in and around the park.

As a part of the project, I developed a new computer language to facilitate easily changing the logic and allowing integration of additional sensors and objects.
